Breaking free from the artistic comfort zone

This week’s blog features Nicole from @theenchantedeasel. You can find her other blog posts here and here and here. Nichole creates the prettiest floral abstract art in a wide range of mediums from acrylic to watercolors to oil pastels.

“OH HELLO, OLD FRIENDS…AND NEWBIES!

This summer, I’ve been on a mission of sorts to break out some of my watercolor confections palettes that I don’t usually reach for, just because well, Woodlands. Still madly in love with that gem of a palette. But, in all fairness, I can share the love. Especially with the very first Art Philosophy palettes I ever purchased…many, many moons ago.

Enter the Classics and Tropicals. These two were my first sets of watercolor confections….and, I’ve been hooked ever since. Classics was a no brainer for me for it’s mixing capabilities. As an art teacher and color mixing enthusiast for decades, it was a natural grab for me. The possibilities are endless.

Another palette that I saw great mixing potential in was the Tropicals palette. Moody, mellow color lovers like myself, don’t be intimated by all the bright shades in this palette. Some of my most favorite deep, rich jewel tone mixes come from the vibrant Tropicals collection.

And my two newest additions came to me when I was fortunate enough to join the Art Philosophy ambassador team last summer. Oh hello, Odyssey and Terrain. Lovely to make your acquaintance. Odyssey gives me Tropicals vibes but in a more intense, sophisticated kind of way. The mixes achieved from this palette….amazing! And Terrain. A newbie for me in lots of ways. It’s abundantly full of the most gorgeous greens. Greens are one of the colors I prefer to mix myself from yellows and blues. With that being said, I’ve found myself really enthralled by the creative challenge the Terrain palette offers me. It forces me to think outside the box with my mixes, and well, I’m always up for a creative challenge.”
